Out & About: TREC Contract Amendments Class with Sean Everest

March 30, 2021HEADS UP! As you get ready to renew your title agent license with the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), make sure that your title agent bond amount sufficiently covers the premium reported in your last statistical report. The TDI licensing staff is checking this amount prior to approving agent license renewals and making requirements that the agent bond be increased in many cases.
The title insurance agent bond should be an amount equal to the greater of $10,000 or 10 percent of the gross premium written by the title insurance agent in accordance with the latest statistical report to TDI but not to exceed $100,000.
The Title Insurance Agent Renewal Application does not specifically mention the agent bond, so you’ll need to verify that the amount meets the requirements listed in the previous paragraph. The last statistical report was for 2018, so use these premium numbers when calculating the amount of your agent bond.
Please contact your agency manager if you need assistance with a new bond, and we can refer you to our preferred vendor for this type of service.
