October 15, 2018Hill Country Titles Keeping It in the Family
Gordon Sauer, founder and president of Hill Country Titles, Inc. in Fredericksburg, Texas, started practicing real estate transaction law in 1968 after graduating from St. Mary’s University School of Law. He was told by his local banker and mentor that, “Every country lawyer needs to own an abstract plant.” Gordon took that advice and started Hill Country Titles, Inc. in 1970. At that time, his business was about 35 percent title insurance and 65 percent abstract. The title company has grown significantly in the 48 years since and now operates with 20 employees along with his law practice.
Gordon’s son, Ryan, transitioned to the title company in 2014 after running the family cattle business. Two years later, he purchased the title company and now serves as vice president. Ryan had never been interested in the title industry but realized that he wasn’t getting where he wanted to be in the cattle business. He saw this as a good opportunity and now focuses on learning the details of the business and acquiring the leadership skills needed to run the title company.
Gordon has modified his leadership role over the years to be a “walk-alongside” leader to his staff. He is motivated when he sees the individual growth this sparks in his employees. As Ryan learns the title industry, Gordon will continue working at the company but hand over more responsibility. Both of these men have invested much into growing this independent agent and providing quality service to all of their customers.
One of the reasons that drew Gordon to First National Title was our focus on the independent agent and the services our company can provide. We would like to recognize Gordon and Ryan Sauer and Hill Country Titles, Inc. as our “Agent Spotlight of the Month.”
